  “ Richard, I don't know how different Python 2.6 is from 2.7. I have tested many of the Semantic extension modules with 2.6, but not with 2.7. We know that they won't work (yet) with Python 3.0. It's a bit of a version-mess. I suggest that you try with 2.7, but have 2.6 installed as a fallback in case of too much trouble.
